When we started Jus'Trufs from our home kitchen in 2001, our dream was simple. Make exceptional chocolates. Work with wonderful corporate clients. Build a respected artisanal chocolate brandnot just another "homemade chocolate" business. And above all, stay debt-free. That's all we wanted. We certainly never imagined that twenty-five years later, people would drive across Bangalore just to spend an afternoon with ussharing a meal, sipping hot chocolate, celebrating birthdays, working between meetings, or simply enjoying a quiet moment. Life has a funny way of taking you somewhere you never planned to go. A Chocolate Factory That Changed Course For our first ten years, Jus'Trufs had no retail store. We created handcrafted chocolates for wonderful corporate clients, Montblanc, DWP Interics, Pivotal, RCI ,Deccan Aviation were just a few initial clients. As the business grew, we moved from our home kitchen into a larger rented home before finally buying a small piece of land in Jakkur, North Bangalore- a dream came true for us. Today, Jakkur is one of Bangalore's busiest neighbourhoods. Back then, there were fields, trees, birds... and plenty of silence. The plan was straightforward: build a chocolate factory with a small retail store. Simple. Except I have one peculiar weakness. I cannot visualise a building from an architectural drawing. I only begin to understand it when the walls start coming up. As I walked through the unfinished spaces, I found myself imagining not just a factory, but the possibilities within it. One question kept nagging me. Would anyone really drive all the way to Jakkur just to buy premium chocolates? Probably not. But perhaps they would come for something more. So we added a few cupcakes. A couple of sandwiches. Our handcrafted milkshakes. Our hot chocolate. Without ever planning it, our chocolate factory slowly became a caf. Food We'd Proudly Serve Our Own Family We made ourselves one promise that has never changed. Whatever came out of our kitchen had to be something we would happily serve our own children. Many of our recipes came from our own homes. Others were inspired by meals shared with family and friends over the years. We have never chased food trends. Instead, we've tried to make food that feels honest. Fresh. Comforting. Made with care. Because when you cook from the heart, people can taste the difference. We never followed insta-worthy trends, just soul food that hits the spot. Building With Creativity Instead of Money By the time the building was complete, there wasn't much money left. So creativity became our biggest asset. Family furniture inspired our chairs. Old pine crates became caf tables. Plain cement became polished flooring. Traditional woven material became our blinds. We built rainwater harvesting before sustainability became fashionable. We filled the caf with natural light through large windows, left our brick walls exposed, and chose fresh air coolers over air-conditioning wherever possible. None of these decisions were made because they were fashionable. Most were made because they were practical. Looking back, they became part of our identity. We were incredibly fortunate to work with an architect and interior designers who believed in our dream as much as we did. In many ways, the caf wasn't built with money. It was built by people. We Never Built the Caf to Sell More Chocolate People often assume we opened a caf to increase chocolate sales. The truth is almost the opposite. Our first question was never, "How do we sell more?" It was, "How do we want people to feel when they walk through our doors?" Chocolate has always been about moments. A first date. A birthday celebration. A meeting that unexpectedly turns into a three-hour conversation. Parents stopping for hot chocolate after the school run. Someone quietly reading in a corner after a difficult day. We wanted Jus'Trufs to be a place where nobody felt hurried. A place where conversations could linger. Where work, laughter, celebrations and quiet reflection could all coexist. Because long after people forget what they ordered, they remember how a place made them feel. If there's one thing we've tried to build over the last twenty-five years, it's a place that feels like home. And for everyone who has walked through our doors over the yearsthank you for making that dream far bigger than we ever imagined.
